The Vavasours hold an unique wine making pedigree in NZ, with their family first settling in NZ in 1887, pioneering commercial grape-growing and winemaking. Louis’s parents, Peter and Anna Vavasour planted the first vines in the Awatere Valley in 1986 and established the region’s first winery Vavasour Wines. Continuing this family journey, Louis Vavasour established his Awatere River Winery nestled amongst the vines in the Lower Dashwood, Awatere Valley, beneath Mt Tapuaenuku, Marlborough and is the culmination of 15 years immersion in winemaking, drawing on over a century of Vavasour family tradition.
